WARNING : Domain Renewal Scam

They are from a company called ‘ISP Renewal’ and should be ignored. They are similar to the scam that DRoA (Domain Registry of America) has attempted on domain owners for many years.

You should only ever renew your domain with your registrar (XILO, if your domain is registered with us), and all invoices and renewals are completed via our My XILO portal.

They claim that renewing with their service, will not alter the WHOIS information and that “you will continue with your current Domain Service Provider” which would only be correct if the domain is renewed with us directly.

We’d advise any one to contact us to verify any messages they get regarding domain renewal. Ensure that you never pass your EPP key (if required) for a domain transfer to a unknown third party, so that your domain can’t be transferred without your knowledge.

New My XILO Features.

We announced a few weeks ago that our new reverse DNS platform was live and that the second phase of the roll out was the ability for customers to change their own reverse records. All being well, this is due to be rolled out in the next week - we’re just running some further internal testing on the customer interface and cleaning up the code and style slightly.

However, we have already released our new bandwidth graphs. These show a per 5 minute sample of traffic for any switch ports your server(s) is connected to. (If you have multiple ports for dual uplinks or access cards, these are shown as 2 sets of graphs).

To access these graphs, login to your My XILO account, go to packages on the right hand menu, then click on the server, or colocation package that you have and the graphs will appear below any your package details as shown below.

Once our reverse DNS roll out is complete, it will closely be followed by an additional IP address request system and server reboot facility. We’ll also be working on a system that will notify server customers when they are approaching their bandwidth limit and when it is exceeded.

Changes to our reverse DNS platform.

Currently, our reverse DNS system was operated manually and any needed changes were completed by a systems engineer.

In the first phase of our new reverse platform, we are now able to add records internally in minutes. These are entered into a central database and are written out to the DNS zones every hour.

The system will now check that a reverse record matches a forward A record pointing to the same IP address. If this is the not the case, a reverse entry cannot be added.

The second phase will enable customers to change and alter any reverse records via their control panel at My XILO. The same rules as above will apply.

Any customers that currently have reverse records set but do not resolve to the correct IP, will not be added to the zone. Our standard reverse entry will be used instead and can easily be changed by raising a support centre ticket.
