Our blog includes company news, recent announcements and upcoming service changes.

Status Notification Alert

We’ve implemented a new feature when logging in to your account at My XILO that will show you current status, and upcoming maintenance notifications.

When there are known service issues or future planned maintenance, you’ll now see a yellow alert window. If there are no issues to report or no planned work, it will not be shown.

We hope this keeps you better informed when there are service issues and we appreciate any comments or feedback you’d like to give us.

SSH Exploit Rumour - Security Alert

Over the past few days, there has been increasing interest in several rumours of an exploit with OpenSSH older than version 5.2.

Further details of the exploit can be found below:

http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=6742
http://www.securityaegis.com/?p=445
http://romeo.copyandpaste.info/txt/nowayout.txt

Until we can confirm or deny these reports, or verify the claims, we have taken the immediate decision to lock down SSH access to our servers - for security.

This means that SSH access to any of our shared, reseller or premium hosting servers has been blocked at our firewalls.

Self-managed dedicated server, VPS and colocation customers are advised to take immediate steps to firewall their servers to prevent any malicious activity. Managed dedicated customers will be reviewed on a case by case basis by our support teams.

New cPanel Shared Hosting packages.

Following the release of our new cPanel based reseller packages, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve released our new shared hosting packages.

Our new shared hosting packages offer even better value for money as well as a discount for paying yearly, in addition to a free domain registration or transfer.

If you are with another hosting company, we’ll gladly migrate your sites free of charge (as long as they are currently using cPanel) so that you can enjoy reliable service and excellent support from our UK-based support team.

The new plans are as follows:

SH-1: 1GB Disk Space, 5GB Bandwidth
SH-2: 2GB Disk Space, 25GB Bandwidth
SH-5: 5GB Disk Space, 50GB Bandwidth
SH-7: 7GB Disk Space, 75GB Bandwidth
SH-10: 10GB Disk Space, 100GB Bandwidth

Our free domain promotion is still valid for all accounts that are paid annually or bi-annually.

We understand that some current customers may want to transfer to the new packages. This should not be a problem, however, some customers maybe on very old packages and as such older servers where such upgrades are not possible. Please contact us if you are an existing customer to discuss your upgrade.

New cPanel/WHM Reseller packages.

We’re pleased to announce that we have launched six new cPanel-based Linux reseller hosting packages.

With our new range of starter and pro packages, you’re able to offer your customers more bandwidth and disk space, as well as being able to save money every month.

If you are with another hosting company, we’ll gladly migrate your sites free of charge (as long as they are currently using cPanel) so that you can enjoy reliable service and excellent support from our UK-based support team.

The new plans are as follows:

RS-5: 5GB Disk Space, 50GB Bandwidth
RS-10: 10GB Disk Space, 100GB Bandwidth
RS-20: 20GB Disk Space, 200GB Bandwidth
RS-30: 30GB Disk Space, 300GB Bandwidth
RS-40: 40GB Disk Space, 400GB Bandwidth
RS-50: 50GB Disk Space, 500GB Bandwidth

Our free domain promotion is still valid for all accounts that are paid annually or bi-annually.

Note: Currently this only applies to our Linux-based accounts. We are reviewing our Windows reseller accounts and will be launching new products soon! :)

We understand that some current customers may want to transfer to the new packages. This should not be a problem, however, some customers maybe on very old packages and as such older servers where such upgrades are not possible. Please contact us if you are an existing customer to discuss your upgrade.

New My XILO Features.

Since our billing system change, we have been developing some additional features in-house. Bandwidth graphing and historical usage were a number one priority, closely followed by reverse DNS, server reboot and additional IP allocation requests.

We announced a few weeks ago that our new reverse DNS platform was live and that the second phase of the roll out was the ability for customers to change their own reverse records. All being well, this is due to be rolled out in the next week - we’re just running some further internal testing on the customer interface and cleaning up the code and style slightly.

However, we have already released our new bandwidth graphs. These show a per 5 minute sample of traffic for any switch ports your server(s) is connected to. (If you have multiple ports for dual uplinks or access cards, these are shown as 2 sets of graphs).

To access these graphs, login to your My XILO account, go to packages on the right hand menu, then click on the server, or colocation package that you have and the graphs will appear below any your package details as shown below.

Once our reverse DNS roll out is complete, it will closely be followed by an additional IP address request system and server reboot facility. We’ll also be working on a system that will notify server customers when they are approaching their bandwidth limit and when it is exceeded.
